Who is this for?

Who are we?

This workshop is a collaborative initiative developed by students and educators across multiple institutions. The project brings together participants from Academic Esports at the University of Agder (UiA), University of Rwanda, RP Tumba College, and INES Ruhengeri, with support from the Embassy of Rwanda to the Nordic Countries.

By combining perspectives, experiences, and expertise from different academic and cultural contexts, we aim to create a shared learning space where everyone contributes, learns, and creates together.

What we will do

The gaming rally will be an opportunity for everyone to play games and explore the world of esports. There will be competitions and prizes as well as playing just for fun.

The workshop focuses on the fundamentals of game design and game development, with an emphasis on learning by doing. Participants will explore what makes games engaging, how designers think about player experience (MDA), and how to transform ideas from paper into playable digital prototypes.

Using accessible tools such as Unity and Godot, participants will work hands-on to design, build, and test simple games. The process is collaborative and iterative, encouraging teamwork, experimentation, and creative problem-solving rather than technical perfection.

Why we do it

We believe game development should be accessible, inclusive, and collaborative. This project is built on the idea that meaningful learning happens when people create together — across institutions, disciplines, and borders.

By sharing knowledge and resources, we want to lower the barrier to game creation and show that you don’t need expensive equipment or prior experience to start making games. With curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, anyone can take their first steps into game design.

The goal is not just to make games, but to build confidence, skills, and connections that participants can carry forward into their own projects and communities.
